Diane Jones Allen has 27 years of professional practice experience in land planning and varied scales of community development work. His work focuses on design activism, public space and democracy, and engagement of marginalized social groups in design and planning. I like the detailed descriptions of Boston and its occupants leading up to, leaving the country or participating in the Revolutionary War, and following it. There is a lot to learn about our selves and our history from the very human, social and political evolution during that period. I have mixed feelings about the generous use of quotes from journals and other contemporaneous documents because the language takes on an Old English quality that makes reading a little slower and more tedious for me.

I'm interested in Early American history. I like many read Esther Forbes fiction Johnny Tremain in grade school. This non-fiction book starts off with Paul's father fleeing France for religious freedom. The book ends shortly after Paul's death. You get a terrific understanding of colonial life and the many ways Paul helped colonial America and the revolution. I understand this is Ms. Forbes only non-fiction book. It received a Pulitzer Prize. This is the best book I've read about this country forming

This is a great read if you're into American history. Everyone knows about the midnight ride of Paul Revere. But there is a whole lot more to know about him than one singular moment in his life. And a lot to learn about Boston and the early settlers, the British influence, and what Paul Revere did both before and after the American Revolution.

If you would like to go back in time and really experience what it was like to know Paul Revere, John Hancock, Samuel Adams & Joseph Warren - then this book is for you. It is an enjoyable read that really takes you back to Boston in the late 1700's.You will come to understand what an important role Paul Revere played in our early history. It is fascinating to see that a man who was involved in the Boston tea party turned around and left without sleep to carry news to Philadelphia of what had taken place. He made the trip to Philadelphia and back four times that year, averaging 63 miles a day!By reading this book, you will be there to see the painted faces of men returning from the Boston tea party, or feel the frustration of having the king's soldiers living in your neighbor's homes. You will experience anxiety as Robert Newman makes his narrow escape out of Christ's Church window after the lanterns have given warning.You will also come to appreciate Paul Revere - who was kind-hearted, quick to make peace with old enemies, and willing to do what was needed. You will find that at age 65 he took on the task of learning how to roll copper for the ships for our new American Navy.After reading this book you will find you have been both entertained and educated!

Love this book. It is beautiful, well written and am enjoying reading this account while helping my daughter complete her project for National History Day. As a child, I read and adored Johnny Tremain so I purchased this book to better understand his life. It was recommended by the Paul Revere House historians.

Easy read for anyone interested in the history of how our county started and those who made it happen. Not just about Paul Revere - it is as much or more "the world he lived in." Extremely thorough in her research. A book for the shelf.
