#105,123 Paid in Kindle Store (See Top 100 Paid in Kindle Store)

If I could give 10 stars I would! This is the best series I have read in a long time also the best of all this author's series books. Jake and Miranda (Randy) Harkner have a love story that is so strong that the reader feels part of their lives. The series spans 1866 to 1898 Jake was 30 and Randy was 20 but both had suffered tragic loss as so many did during the post Civil War era. We see in each book how their lives progress as well as how the changes in the time period also affect them. Randy had a loving childhood until her mother died and her doctor father moved the family to Kansas in 1860. Jake only knew hardship and brutality from his father but his mother gave him and his little brother all her love until she and his brother were murdered by his father when Jake was 8. Jake lived the life of an outlaw running guns during the war; robbing, killing but never raping or abusing women. He never knew love and compassion until he meets Miranda Hayes in a general store in Kansas. She shoots him but he escapes only to wind up in her farm house where she removes the bullet, nurses him back to health and starts to fall in love with him. Jake realizes he cannot let her do that but he also is falling in love. He leaves before it goes too far; he knows he is a wanted man and doesn't want to hurt Randy. You really need to read each book in order to see how this beautiful love affair blossoms. Each has suspense, tragedy with action in abundance. We meet new characters like Peter Brown the lawyer who also loves Randy; Jeff Trubridge, a Jewish newspaper writer from Chicago, looking for a story of the infamous and famous Jake Harkner. Also his children and grandchildren each has a personality of their own but they love their father and grandfather. Throughout the book we see Randy's faith in the Lord as well as their daughter Evie's strong Christian faith that help the family through the bad times with quiet strength and prayer. Jake also has to face his past which seems to catch up him just when he thinks finally he can have some peace. I'm waiting for number 5 with Little Jake, Ben and Stephen the next generation. diamondgirl

Way past midnight, I finished Book 4. How can it be that I love the wild outlaw, Jake? A great old fashioned historical western at it's best; a former outlaw whose life was changed when he met a small whip of a woman; he can stop bank robberies and hugs his baby grandchildren; and, he will never abuse a woman. As the country changed with motored vehicles, electricity and telephones, the old Jake was out of place with his guns on his hips, yet, someone asks him to be the gunfighter with a reputation and rescue a young girl in Mexico. There are sensual scenes in this book; there are cuss words; there are killings; but they fit the times and they fit the story. I'll never forget Jake and his Randy...(and I ran out of Kleenex).

I fell in love with Jake Harkner the first time I read Outlaw Hearts back in the mid 1990's. He is such a contradiction - the gentle, loving, family man, who is also a ruthless outlaw who doesn't hesitate to kill a man in cold blood for hurting one of Jake's family members. I also really admired Miranda Harkner's strength of character and complete devotion to her husband. However, in this book, Miranda's character starts out as a weak, needy woman who doesn't want Jake out of her sight. I know the reasons why she has had a complete mental breakdown, but I have to say, I am not so much of a fan of hers in this book, and I think the complete turnaround is why.I'm giving the book 4 stars because of the changes in Randy. I also noticed some editing problems, like the name of Jake's horse changing from Midnight in the previous book to Outlaw in this book, when this book said it was the same horse who survived the barn fire in the previous book. There were also some discrepancies in things that were explained differently than in previous books, such as the "official" reason Jake's mother and little brother were no longer around. In this book it said they had run off, but in the first book, they died of cholera.I still appreciate the author's skill in telling a captivating story with incredibly complex characters. I highly recommend "The Last Outlaw" but to get the total impact of the story, it needs to be read after the other three books in the series.

My gosh! I absolutely loved this book and I would have given it 10 stars if I could. Like you Rosanne, I can't get enough of the Harkners......especially Jake and Miranda. I love Lloyd's character as well. Please write another book on the Harkners, soon! I would love for you to write another series too. I love your books and the beautiful stories and characters you create, Rosanne. I just keep 're-reading these books over and over again. Thank you Rosanne for giving me so wonderful many hours of reading entertainment! God bless you.

This is the 4th seriesI have of the Last Outlaw. I love Jake so much and is by Rosanne Bittner my favorite author I have around 40 of her books. T;his series will make you laugh and cry. I have read it over and over. He always lives by the gun.It is the tale of tragedy and triumph. I love everyone of Rosanne Bittners books. You want to read a good great book read theThe last outlaw. I could hardly put it down.

I've read every book I can find by Rosanne Bittner and The Last Outlaw did not disappoint. I think the 4 books in this series would make a great mini series for TV. If I had the money and the connections it would be done! If you love historical romance written in the 1800's don't miss this wonderful series. Thank you Ms. Bittner for all the outstanding stories you have provided to your readers. LOVED every one of them.

Jake and Randy try to regain their intimate relationship lost that winter. Jake still has to use his guns when necessary and when he needs to be the man he is for women. Decades have brought the Harkners to this ending. Faith gets them through tragedy that will rip your heart out. A must read after latching on to these characters lives through it all. There is a lot more to this family to be told yet. Hope we get .more.
